Great job. I found an empty hole on the opposite side, same area, and mounted the second horn there with a nut, bolt and lock washer. Much better sounding. Thanks for pointing out the spaceship sound generator. I had no idea what that was. 😂😂😂

Like many others, I wasn't satisfied with the factory horn. Following the other horn threads, I opted for the Hella dual horn paired with the plug n play splitter. The gasoline Cross has an extra mounting hole next to the factory horn for the 2nd Hella horn. To my surprise, it appears the hybrid uses that mount for the spaceship sound generator. I couldn't get both horns to fit using only the factory horn mount. They would mount on the single hole but the plastic cover wouldn't go back in place. I found an unused hole on the passenger side and used it for 2nd horn. I had a short bolt that worked perfectly. Just added a lock washer to be sure it won't go anywhere. The splitter cable had plenty of slack to mount the 2nd horn on the passenger side. I'm very happy to have a "real" horn when the need arises.

On a side note, I found some interesting information on the sound generator.

I have a friend in Japan that deals with Toyota parts, and when I asked him about the horn issue with my 2024 CCH, he told me people are using the Land Cruiser horns, which are 500mz and 400mz. It comes in a kit with both horns, wiring harness and nuts, bolts, and spacers.
Getting the front cover completely off that covers the horns/space ship generator looks impossible without removing part of the front end, and bending the cover looks like the only way to access that area. On my 2023 Coroall SE Sedan it was easy because it came off as a unit...so, we'll see how the installation goes and the difference between the single toy horn and these two real horns.

Congrats. I’ve seen write ups of similar installs on the Cross. Curious of outcome and headaches, and if you imported that kit from Japan or bought in the US (or wherever you are) ?

From similar posts, users were adding a 12V relay to power dual horns. Unknown what your setup involves

 

I live in AZ, and did get the OE horn kit from Japan.
I don't see any reason for a relay if the circuit is less than 25amps. I've put them on my old 2023 Corolla SE without an issue, although you could totally remove the top cover to reach the horns, where on the Corolla Cross the cover can't be totally removed easily.

 

Front shield lifts up by popping the two or three pins, no need to take front end off.
Buy the Hella horns and y-splitter and you’re good. No need for relay. Have installed this set up twice - on a 23 and 24.

 

The front shield only has two plastic pop rivets, but it will not come totally off like on my 2023 Corolla SE Sedan. This means you will have to bend it, because it's one piece and goes under the front sensor which looks very difficult to take off.

 

bwb001 is right. It's not ideal but there's plenty of room to work by just lifting up the edge.

 

So are we just unplugging the old horn, splitting it and leaving it unused?

 

No, you need to remove the old horn to make room for one of the new horns, then find a spare hole where you can attach the second one, as on the hybrid the second hole is used by the pedestrian alert speaker.

That "box" is just an additional cover/vent. Just remove the plastic rivets on each end (a small screwdriver can be used to pop up the center and release the rivet) and it pulls right out. My pic shows the 2nd horn mounted directly underneath.

Thank you all for the information. I went with the toyota premium horn and was able to install it.

Few things to note:

• If you buy the toyota premium horn, you have to buy a bolt and nut (m8 x 1.25 and nut, washer too if your bolt doesn't have one built in) to secure the second horn on the opposite side. Mine came with a black bolt with a spring and no nut. I didn't use the black bolt with the spring because of how difficult it is to screw on with the nut in the back.
• When installing the bolt and nut onto the second horn on the opposite side, I had a super hard time. I had to hold the nut in the back without dropping it to thread the bolt on. Once threaded, I simply tightened until it couldn't be tightened anymore. If it looks like it's spinning at the end and won't tighten, it is tightening, just takes more turns.
• When testing the horn, the horn has to be grounded (touching the metal frame, at least)

Hi, did a similar upgrade on my Italian Corolla Cross full hybrid a couple of mounths ago. With my 2.0 engine no free holes where available due to the spaceship speaker. I used the existing oem bracket to extend with an additional metal bracket that came with the new horns as you can see in the enclosed picture. My choose went to Fiamm am80sx dual horns, best seller and relyable after market horns all over the world. The adapter wiring came from Ali.. but it's easy to solve also by your own in case want. No changes were done to oem wiring. Very happy with the final result and now my CCH has a loud and legal voice in case of need.
