Vehicle malfunction at Start/Stop

My Cross shuts down as it was designed to at stops. Every once in a while it throws dash lights and won't automatically restart when the brake is released. One time on a hill it started rolling backward. I have to put the vehicle in park, turn off, and turn back on. Then put in Drive and I can drive again. Super frustrating and nerve racking. Dealer has no idea what to do.

It has happened to others. Seems to be related to wet weather. Any advice?

My experience is similar to this video: Toyota Corolla Cross 2023 Engine Shut Off Malfunction

I've had the problem happen twice with my 2023 Corolla Cross with under 1,500 miles on the car. I talked to the dealership where I bought the car and the dealership closer to home. Both are saying that they have not heard of the issue, but I can bring the car in so they can check for OBD codes. If they find something, it's covered under warranty. If they do not find anything, I will have to pay almost $200 for the service visit. This car is my first Toyota. For a company that's supposedly known for quality and service, I think they suck at both!
Omg! Glad a friend sent this to me today. My Toyota LE Cross 2023 is just a month old. The same exact thing happened to me yesterday. Just finished running errands at the post office. As I reached the Stop sign, it started raining so I turned on my front and rear wipers and all of a sudden the car alarmed and the steering wheel froze so I could not proceed even though it was a green right already. Good thing I had a presence of mind, i placed the car on Park mode, Pushed my hazard button and restarted the car. After that, I was able to drive again as if nothing has happened to the car. Called the dealership and the freakin' guy I spoke with just told us to review the manual. What the heck?! I am bringing the car back to the dealership this weekend. I am trying to file a report to NHTSA but the website keeps on sating that my VIN is not. on record. What to do?

It’s a known problem. When your engine auto start/stop and intermittent wipers are on at the same time the car will turn off when stopped. There is a DCM update for this. Recommend taking it to another Toyota dealer with knowledge of this. Bandaid fix is to turn OFF your engine auto start stop but you must do it EACH time. That should help!
