I am having a issue about the roof rails which came already installed on my 2022 corolla cross LE. They do not seem to lay flat at the tail end and I went to the dealership because the drivers side rail had come detached and I could see the metal thing inside. Anyone else have a issue with roof rails?

Same as mine. After getting hit with high-pressure air at the car wash, the passenger side rail came loose. I pushed it down and it seemed to have popped back into place. Let me know if you have come up with another solution

I did get questioned by the service center about whether or not I went through a cash wash. I told them I don't use car washes. They went out to the lot and checked other crosses and told me they were all lifted up so it was not a warranty issue. I then contacted Toyota and they referred me to the service manager. He inspected it and said it was the worst he had seen. Apparently it is a common issue which is not acceptable to me on a brand new car! At any rate he replaced the roof rail. It still was lifting on that rail in the back after the replacement. In my instance I have since attributed it to the sun and the California heat. The hotter it got here the worse the “distortion” was!! Again, not acceptable to me. A design or materials flaw. I have not had the issue since cold weather and I am pretty sure I will see the lifting etc next summer and I will not be a happy camper!!!!

Interesting! Would you recommend someone who is getting ready to pick up their new Cross to NOT get the crossbars?? I’ve been going back and forth on this for about a week now and need to give the dealership an answer ASAP. I was worried about a potential whistling noise coming from the crossbars with the moon roof open, maybe that shouldn’t be my biggest worry when it comes to the cross bars (I live in AZ, btw, so if the heat causes lifting, then it could definitely happen here).

When I refer to roof rails I am talking about the stock rails that come attached to the car roof. I can’t say whether or not you should get the crossbars. I , myself, had the idea of going ahead and buying the cross
bars and having them installed. I was thinking that they maybe would hold the roof rails down in the back like they are supposed to be. But after really looking at the rails and where the crossbars would attach, the crossbars would be up higher on the rails, not even near where the rails lift up in the back (at the tail end of the rail) so I don’t think crossbars would be a solution to my particular problem. (Plus, it would be a big expense for me when I would never use them! ) I think if you have a use for crossbars there is no reason not to install them. I don’t think they would affect the rail raising in the back in any way. If it is going to happen, it’s going to happen, crossbars or no crossbars.

My apologies. I keep incorrectly referring to the crossbars as the “rail racks.” I understand now, though. Thanks!

No problems! I was doing the same until I talked to the service department! Please keep posted next summer if you have any issues with the roof rails. If it turns out to be a heat related problem Toyota will have to make some changes.

The OEM crossbars are rated at only 66lbs total capacity. It all depends on what you plan to carry on them. Personaly, I opted for the Thule Evo system rated at 165lbs total capacity. My one kayak weighs 44lbs, and the wifes kayak is heavier still.

I just want to remove it to have a flush look. Does anyone know what parts I would need to have no roof rail? Perhaps the rubber strip? Part numbers would be helpful. Thanks.
So do I. Did you get any solution for this ? Service center in Istanbul cannot answer this question and could find any part number to cover the mounting holes in case of removal.

In Bulgaria, at the service station, they told me that they don't know if it can be replaced with a rubber seal, because there is nothing to fill the holes with. I want to remove them, because with the rise in temperature, the situation becomes even worse.

They answered me like that too. But I got angry and insisted on changing the rails. They agreed. And now I'm waiting for them to be delivered.
Thanks for your answer. I actually would like to remove them forever for a better flush look. so could you please send me/forum few pictures when they remove them and before the installtion of the new ones so that I/we can see the mounting method and may be we can understand if we can cover them afterwards

Yes, when they remove the old rails, I will ask them to photograph the gutter so that the holes can be seen. But in my opinion, it will not work with a rubber seal, there is a possibility that it will flow through the hole, which is sealed with a bolt. And the bolt will lift the rubber seal. It will necessarily I'm photographing them so you can see the openings.
