Just landed here while searching for information.

We just got a 2022 Cross XLE and turned down the dealer offer for the alarm system, thinking that $700 was too much. In addition, the car already has an anti-theft system and immobilizer. Has anyone installed an aftermarket alarm system? If so, why did you get it and how much did you pay? Any insights are greatly appreciated.

One more thing, were you able to do it without adding an extra fob? The Toyota fob is too nice to give it up and having two seems like a hassle.

As someone who used to install aftermarket alarms on all my vehicles, I haven’t seen the need to do it with my last 3. Immobilizers really are enough to prevent theft of the vehicle itself. I only installed alarms because my job required me to have expensive camera gear in my vehicle. Now that I don’t do that anymore, stock alarms and immobilizers are enough. I guess it depends on where you live and if vehicle break ins are common.

If you don't mind, what is an engine immobilizer? I have had a Cross for a few months now. Also, should I get a cage around my catalytic converter? I live in a big city, and park on the street for work. Unfortunately.

Thanks! That was helpful.
