MPG + THROTTLE CONTROL ECO MODE

I’ve created a thread here few weeks ago and got zero comments about the throttle control device.
Well, I had one installed in my previous 2021 C-HR xle and it helped a lot so I decided to try it with my Corolla Cross Le FWD.

without tcontrol: Cold weather, not warming the engine before leaving my house in the morning.
City drive: average 27/ 29mph
Highway drive : average 27/33mph

without throttle control : Cold weather, warming up the engine for about 15 minutes before leaving my house in the morning
City drive : average 35/40 mpg
Highway: 37/46 mpg

WITH throttle control: Cold weather, warming up the engine for about 15 minutes before leaving my house in the morning.
City drive: average 40/45 mpg
Highway drive: average 40/48 mpg

I always keep it in ECO MODE ( SA-)
There is power whenever I need it! It won’t sluggish the engine at all!

I’ve tried all other modes and everything works like it is meant to be.

I found a lot of videos about modern vehicles are not meant to be idling with the purpose of warming up the engine in the morning, that will damage all components around the engine prematurely and etc.
Well, I don’t really think that 15 min is enough to cause damages because that’s when the engine will reach the warming point, so I assume if you leave it idling after it gets warm, that’s the real problem.
I guess the A button function ( Stop/Start) will cause more damage than anything else when used a lot.
I know in terms of saving gas, Prius is the best option, my wife owns a Prime version and it’s awesome! But all Prius seats too low , I don’t like the feeling of being too close to the ground and I suffer from back pain, getting in and out of a Prius multiple times a day it’s a torture to my back.
I just want to share my experience with the throttle control and the mpg improvement.
After installing the throttle, it will take some time for the mpg to improve, your car will learn again the way you drive and adapt itself.

there are some very expensive brands out there that will do absolutely the same as the cheapest one, so do your research and go for the one you can afford and trust.

How does one get a 23 AWD XLE into "Eco mode"?
Sorry, just got mine a week ago, and haven'd figured everything out yet.

Hey Dave,

Well, mine is the LE version and it doesn’t have the eco/normal/sport modes as an option from factory.
I only get the eco sign when I am really saving gas while driving, I mean.. the L and LE there’s no option to select it or a button to press and activate any mode.
I believe the XLE is different and you have the option for normal and sport modes..
Eco mode will pop up when you drive more conservative and that’s kind of automatic
Thanks!...But I seem to be too dense to figure it out. I do have the 7 inch display in my XLE, and it does have an Eco bar indicator that moves back and forth. I suppose giving me a relative idea of how eco-friendly I'm driving. I don't see a way to change the driving mode however. There are probably settings I haven't investigated yet.

My wife's Rav4 Hybrid does have buttons near the shift lever for different driving modes. "Trail" mode is very helpful on snow/ice slippery roads. I'm not seeing anything like that on our new Cross though. Perhaps someone can direct me better on this. Perhaps I need to buy one of those devices shown in the pics?

I hope the AWD system works well on the Cross. It will log many miles in the Colorado mountains, and the weather changes there on a dime. Even in summer you can encounter ice and snow above 10,000 feet. My reference point is my wife's Rav4 AWD, and a Subaru Outback we have...which is nearing end of life...but it gets around great in snow.

Every mile I can squeeze out of a gallon is certainly welcome these days!

Thanks again,
Dave O.
