How to get the HYBRID this summer

Here is my story so far.

I want the Cross Hybrid. I went to a Toyota dealership and placed a $500 deposit down as she said about two other people did this already. We looked at the 3 models online and she asked me the color I liked and what add-ons. and she mentioned it is unlikely her dealership will even get the base S model. She said they won’t order my specific car to meet exactly what I want, and if I don’t like the car whenever one comes,I can have my deposit back.

So it sounds as if they are just going to order what they figure the public will want. She quoted my trade-in car at $17000 but will need to requote it when I go to purchase and she gave me their finance payment application and sample payment for the balance, which was going to be over $16,000.

As far as the time frame, I was told she has no idea.

Is this the only way to get the hybrid. I mean, would another dealership let me choose exactly how I want it built and the order it for me? I have an idea of what I’m looking for, the SE or the XSE in wind chill pearl or sonic grey. I can’t see why she couldn’t just take my order as I want to buy it and then have it made that way.

I have never tried to get a car before it was allotted so any advice would be appreciated.

Screw them, I wouldn’t pay 1 dime over
They can keep their vehicle, why do people do this, please people stop letting these dealers screw us
Dealers charging high markup are likely to have much shorter waitlist, so if you cannot wait, you have to pay more. I have seen >$15K markup for RAV4 Prime, but it does not mean you can get a car even at that price.
The dealers have been told to prioritize local customers over out-of-area shoppers. And the locals shall not be gouged. :)
2 dealers in my area (within about 50 miles) don't even want to talk to me because I don't live in the same county.

Having a VIN probably means the build process has started. It will probably take 2-3 months before the car shows up at the dealership.
I agree

I built my non hybrid last March and received delivery in late July. It took a while but got exactly what I wanted. I got the XLE in Cypress.

That has always been my thoughts on it. There has to be a car at some stage of build to have a VIN even if salesman doesn’t have a clue about it, lol

Did the dealership submit your specs for you or were you able to build and submit online with the regular Corolla Cross?
I’m wondering how many of the Hybrid Corolla Crosses each dealership nationwide is supposed to be allocated once building starts. I know I heard they expect to sell 15,000 the rest of this year. Will they be spaced apart like one a month or something like that?
The number I have seen is 14,000 for this year. With about 1270 dealers, the average is 11 cars per dealer. Hopefully the MSRP dealers will get more cars than the ones with high markup.

So I was emailed this allotment today. I passed because I did not want a black car. It is crazy that the dealership can request a certain color, but they are given what the manufacturer has. I don’t understand that. Whatever. So I’ll be waiting for one of two colors, but I don’t know nor does the dealership, if they will get it .

They're not doing custom orders, so you may not get exactly what you want. At least you're on top of the waitlist. I have no idea when/if I'll even have a chance to get one this year.

I’m hoping to purchase Acidic Blast color. Of the Corolla Cross Hybrids promised to dealerships within a 500 mile radius of my house, it is the only color scheme I’ve yet to see. Black color in Ohio is always looking crappy during the winter months.

I agree about black and showing every spot.
Absolute Crooks😡
Agree …. I absolutely hate that. It’s mostly crap or things that only costs very little to the dealer.
