Detailed Corolla Cross cargo space measurements

One piece of information I could not find when first considering the Cross was the actual dimensions of the rear cargo space. The only specification given was the rather useless (for practical purposes) "cubic feet". So, for the benefit of others considering this car, I did a complete set of measurements of my AWD LE. Keep in mind that the FWD versions of the car have a lower floor due to the lack of the AWD hardware.

Blue arrows: lengthwise measurements with rear seats upright.

Measurement descriptions:
  • Rear opening height from floor to top of opening: 28.5 inches (72.39 centimeters)
  • Opening width at base (above rounded corners): 43.75 inches (111.13 centimeters)
  • Opening width at top (below rounded corners): 37 inches (93.98 centimeters)
  • Distance between wheel well protrusions (this is the minimum width of the space): 37 inches (93.98 centimeters)
The rear of the Cross is convex, with more lengthwise space at the center than at the edges:

Rear space with rear seats folded flat:
  • Minimum length of space from rear door to front seat backs (at the right and left edges): 63 inches (160.02 centimeters)
  • Maximum length of space from rear door to front seat backs (at the center of the vehicle): 67 inches (170.18 centimeters)
  • Length of space from rear door to top of front seat backs: 49 inches (124.46 centimeters)
  • Step-up between rear floor and flat seat backs: 2.5 inches (6.35 centimeters)
  • Floor-to-ceiling interior height, main section: 32 inches (81.28 centimeters)
  • Floor-to-ceiling interior height, above folded seats: 26.5 inches (67.31 centimeters)
Rear space with rear seats upright:
  • Minimum length of space from rear door to rear seat backs (at the right and left edges): 30.75 inches (78.11 centimeters)
  • Maximum length of space from rear door to rear seat backs (at the center of the vehicle): 32.75 inches (83.19 centimeters)
  • Length of space from rear door to top of rear seat backs: 28 inches (71.12 centimeters)
  • Floor-to-ceiling interior height, main section: 32 inches (81.28 centimeters)

Great! Can you get the length from the dash on the passenger side to the hatch? (Reclining the seat)

The front seat doesn’t recline back all the way, and only moves a few degrees forward of 90 degrees. Here is the farthest mine will go backward with the front passenger seat moved all the way forward.

The length from the dash to the rear door is 101 inches (256.54 centimeters), the length from the front windshield to rear door is 121 inches (307.34 centimeters). So, in the context of carrying long, narrow items like lumber, pipes, poles, etc you have a little over 10 feet to work with with those items resting on the reclined seat back (the headrests are removable).

That’s great!
I looked at an XLE a few days ago and noticed the amount of seat back recline. That is the same as my RAV4. I put something over the seat to protect it for longer loads.

I did not have a tape measure with me , so thanks for passing that measurement on.
