Hi,

Well, I don't have my Corolla Cross yet (March 26th -- fingers crossed) but I am very excited.
Auto dimming rear view mirror is quite important for me, but to me it wasn't worth paying $5000 extra (I know that's not the only thing I'd get by upgrading to XLE) So I am thinking of retrofitting an auto dimming rearview mirror. They sell for $50-$100 on eBay. I checked Corolla forums and it seems like it's quite doable, although I might need to run a wire from the fusebox to the mirror area. Again, not a huge problem as I am also thinking of hardwiring a dashcam.
Has anyone successfully retrofitted an auto-dimming rearview mirror and/or hardwired a dashcam?

Thanks and happy holidays! :)

Can't help you with the mirror as I don't have a Cross or worked on one yet. However I can help you with your dashcam wiring.

Make sure whatever hardwire kit you get it's a 3 wire not a 2 wire. The 2 wire will only provide power when the car is on. The 3 wire will provide power when the car is off as well so parking mode will work (If someone hits your car it'll start recording or you can also set it to motion activation). A good example is the one I use at work:

Any ground will work so that's the easiest part. For the constant just find a fuse that is always 12 volts even when the car is off. For the other wire (it's called accessory or ignition wire) just tap into the fuse for the radio.
