Taken from this Colombian car magazine article: Toyota suspenderá temporalmente la producción de Corolla Cross y Yaris en Brasil
Well. One word: f%ckThe shortage of microcomponents that is shaking the auto industry after the outbreak of the global pandemic continues to take the toll on manufacturers around the world. Toyota, for example, must suspend production of the Toyota Corolla Cross and Yaris in Brazil.
The news was released through an official statement from the Japanese brand, where it explains that the lack of microchips led to the stoppage of the assembly line in the center of Sorocaba in Sao Paulo. The same will happen with the production of engines that takes place at the Porto Feliz factory.
For the moment, only the processes of the Toyota units located in the Brazilian towns of São Bernardo do Campo and Indaiatuba, manufacturers of parts for the production of local products, and for export to the United States used in the assembly of the Camry sedan, will remain active.
This moment of crisis comes in one of the best seasons for the Japanese manufacturer in Brazil, both in terms of local sales and the recovery of exports to the countries of the region. Success that is partly due to the arrival of its hybrid SUV, Toyota Corolla Cross,
The new model had an immediate reception not only in the country that produces it, but in others outside, such as Colombia. Here at Corolla Cross it managed, with just a few weeks on sale, to become the best-selling vehicle last June.
Now its production will be suspended alongside that of the Toyota Yaris hatchback and sedan for 10 days between August 18 and 27. Without knowing with certainty what may happen once this deadline is met, and it is not ruled out that it may be extended for a few more days.
