Has anyone had any luck when buying a Toyota in the past preventing them from installing accessories at the "port" (in the Cross case, factory)? I ask because I can do without all these and want a basic car.

Hopefully they exist. I talked to one dealer in Georgia and they said their area does not do that.

Thinking more about it, when the build function is up and running on the Toyota website, you could build what you wanted and not choose accessories. Then it would check inventory to find the in stock car closest to what you want and go from there. Of course this is when they are plenty of cars at the dealer which may be awhile.

And from the window stickers I have seen so far, some cars don't have a lot of extras and some have a lot. So maybe I would find one with few and negotiate a reduction on those. I was able to do that on 2015 RAV4.
This is cool. I got a Toyota dealer to remove the security package , $799, and the paint protection, $799, from a workup on the price of an LE. I was very surprised they would. He wouldn't budge on the tint, but still something what he would do.

I may work out something like that on an L when they get close to getting one.

Got this email from a local dealer. I bold faced the remarkable and great to see part....

"It looks like our first Corolla Cross L will be making it's arrival on November 2nd. I will continue to update you as we get closer.

We have started to take $500 fully refundable deposits on future availability that will fill our future allocations.
If you would like to secure the next Corolla Cross L, I can add you to that list with a deposit in person or over the phone.

That list is filling up and will be used as first come, first serve to fill our weekly allocations but will be the only way to land the model you want moving forward.
Again, we do not charge over MSRP and have ZERO dealer add's to our vehicles.

Please don't hesitate to let me know if you have any questions or if there is any additional information that I can help provide. I appreciate the opportunity and look forward to working with you!"

My dealer was pretty straightforward about not adding anything to my order. I would have taken mud guard and floor mats, but they only asked if I wanted the Convenience Package and I declined. No issue.

In Florida the "doc fees" are the highest in the country - typically $900. or more. I told the salesman I wouldn't pay it and they took it off by discounting that amount off the MSRP.

Good job ....congrats!

I noticed on cargurus.com that Florida has the lowest sticker prices. Then I noticed what you saw with the docs fees. Nice little trick there .
