Your mileage seems a bit low for the Cross' stated EPA mileage. If your Cross is new (less than 1,000 miles) the engine isn't broken in yet and that can affect mileage. MPGs should increase after break-in. Of course personal driving styles and other things can affect your mileage. Here's a link that discusses this issue:

Mine is new, just got it december 3 last year. Now i have 2k miles on it.
I will say this my city driving MPG is way low. At times its like yours 24-26/27 but my highway is 30-32. Yes I know driving style is a factor but for me I think the factors that hurt mine are 1. That I live in the mountains here in East TN and 2. the slow from a start acceleration which leaves me pushing it harder than I feel like I should. Hence why I will be having it tuned here soon.

Either way though I still love the car and do not regret it whatsoever.

How's your MPG now? Did it increase to the EPA estimate?

I got mine Crorolla Cross AWD LE around April and my average MPG is between18- 19 is it normal? I'm currently is 970miles. How long does it take to break in the car and do I need to have an oil change around 1k? Please help.
AWD can drag down the mileage but yours sounds low. I just passed 1,000 miles. Around suburban areas (rarely over 50 mph) my FWD XLE gets 33-34 mpg. On highways 35-36 mpg. I'm running the A/C all the time in the Florida summer heat. 🥵🔥.

I was taught to drive with an "egg" under the accelerator i.e. moderate acceleration from stops. It helps. I don't use auto Start/Stop either.
I don't believe an oil change is "required" at 1,000 miles. YMMV. Read the maintenance book recommendations that came with the CC.

I try not to use AC and running between 25mph - 50mph rage most of the time in NYC. If it is really way below EPA what I should do? Please advise, do you think I might have a defected model? CC AWD LE

If NYC traffic is as bad as I imagine you may be doing a lot of idling and start/stop traffic. That will definitely kill you MPGs.

I'm in queens which is not as bad as you think. Rarely have to stop, only during driving local which is require below 25mph or traffic lights.

You need an oil change 10k or 1 year which ever come first, after they service mine 5k it change a little bit. First 3 day i average 33 combine, now back to 23 mpg combine.

Must be something going on in my LE because I am running short trips (15 miles and 20 miles) and my mileage is 40.4 and if I hit several lights it will drop to 37.......I took one trip through 3 counties and logged 152 miles and the mpg stayed right at 39. In Florida our two lane roads are mostly 60 mph and 4 lane roads are 65 mph. My trip was not on interstate. The odometer is showing 840 total miles. I just bought it on November 8th.
I guess I should add I put my tire pressure up to 35psi all 4 tires.

Wow that is great!
Reminds me of my old Scion xB. I didn’t get that high of mileage but I did note it got better highway mileage when I kept it below 70 miles per hour.
