2023 LE tail lights

I saw another thread on here talking about the dim tail lights for the L and LE trims. Does anyone know if the 2023s have the tail lights extending onto the liftgate or will this still be a concern with the new year’s model?

Thanks for responding. I had already put a deposit down on an LE when I discovered this. I think I will research some things to put on the back to make myself more visible during my 30-45 day wait.

maybe even just swapping the tail lamp bulbs to LED would be beneficial! I believe they are just a regular bulb.

Thanks. I’ll check into that as well.
I swapped the license plate bulbs to bright white LED and that makes a HUGE difference too! I can be seen now!
I’ve tried to remove the tail assembly with no success…after removing the only 2 screws, I couldn’t remove the tail assembly, it is so stuck in there thatI was afraid I was going to damage it so I gave up.

yup so i've heard.. a lot of people having a hard time taking it out.. i'll have to check with a tech to see what the trick is.

What is the reason for wanting to remove that part? I’m asking because I have no knowledge about how to do these things and my mechanic nephew is going to help me with doing some of these upgrades.

Hi there I managed to remove the tail light on the back door and side. The side light slide out after you remove the two bolt hold them in place. On the gate there are three bolts holding it in place, these are on tight so a little is needed. Hope that helps .

The side light slide out after removing the two bolts? I did remove those two bolts and couldn’t get it out. I was afraid I was going to damage it.
Mine didn’t slide out, they seemed to be clipped to something inside.

They do slide to the rear with a LOT of pulling. The clips holding them are fiercely strong.

will try it one more time. I’ll swap the bulbs to LED if I manage to slide it out. Thank you

I have the same issue. Can´t remove the taillight assembly. Did you have any luck? I even got some suction cups to see if that will help me pulling them out and nothing! so frustrating!

Yes! Actually I had to pay a technician do install some bumper LED lights and he had to remove both tail lights to do the wiring. You just need to apply a lot of effort hahah I mean, you need to slide towards the back with a lot of strength! Yeah! Be careful with the connectors the cables are short.

Thanks for your response. I guess I´ll have to go to a shop for someone to help me. I don´t have much physical strength! hehe

I think once you remove them for the first time, it will get easier the next time.
Good luck
I just received my new 2023 L model yesterday, drove it to work this morning in the dark and thought that there was something wrong with my tail lights, (not working on the lift gate) come to find out that this was how they were designed (WHY, it makes no sense) seems dangerous to me! We need to see if Toyota will fix this.
